CONNECT-ED

Troy School District has implemented a new system to communicate with parents and employees. This system is called Connect-Ed.  It will allow us to send personalized messages to your home phone, work and personal cell phones including school closings, emergency situations, school events, and any other school related issues.

Please be sure to notify your school office if there are any changes in your contact numbers!

Shorewood Elementary
Mission Statement

The Staff of Troy Shorewood School in partnership with the parents/guardians and community hold high expectations for all students.  Believing all students can achieve, it is our mission to provide a positive and safe environment to promote a healthy self-esteem.  Through the encouragement of positive social behavior, we expect students to develop an appreciation of the world in which they live.

For Kid's Sake

Thank you to everyone who transports their child(ren) to school in the morning and are following our "new" procedure of dropping off at door #2 and exiting the school grounds using Dante Street.  We have totally eliminated our "bottleneck effect" at our front entrance and increased traffic flow and safety.

We really could use your concentrated effort to only use DANTE STREET when exiting the school grounds after dropping off your student(s).

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD A VEHICLE BE IN THE REAR OF THE BUILDING!!

PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN FROM ONLINE PREDATORS

Over the past six years online predators have been a growing concern as the number of young students involved in online chat continually increases.  It has already happened in this community.  Below are tips to prevent this from happening to your child.

  • Never put a computer in a child's bedroom
  • Never allow a child on the computer in the afternoon without an adult in the house
  • Stay out of chat rooms
  • Adults control passwords and sign the kids on yourself, especially with young children
  • Don't allow children to post personal information in profiles or web pages
  • Be nosey, know the people your children are chatting with and review their profiles and web pages (Buddy List)
  • The most dangerous times for a child to be online is from 2-5 p.m..  Most offenders solicit children from work, not from their homes
  • Web cams can be very dangerous.  If you or your child accept a web cam invitation from someone, they can attach a virus which allows them to activate your web cam at anytime without your knowledge
  • Offenders target children with low self-esteem, who have diffictulty developing relationships with their peers for whatever reasons and have little relationship with parents

Parents, talk to your children about messages they may receive.  Encourage them to report threats, inappropriate chat or invitations to meet immediately.  Contact police with issues and save the information you have rather than cancelling screens or deleting e-mails.  If you are unsure about how to check certain information on the computer, contact me and I can arrange a time to meet with you.  If we work together and are proactive we can reduce the chances of more children being lured and abused by these predators.  Shorewood residents can contact D.A.R.E. Officer Giugler at 815-715-1460 at extension 51 with questions.  Others can contact your local police agency with concerns.

Attendance Procedures

  • Children should NOT arrive before 8:20 AM
  • Children may enter the building when the doors open at 8:20 AM and proceed directly to their classrooms
  • All children MUST be in their classrooms and ready to learn by 8:35 AM
  • Tardy students will be given a pass to be admitted to their classrooms

NOTES FROM NURSE PERINAR

If you would like your child to have cough drops or any other medication while at school, please request a medication administrative form.  I can not give any medication if this form is not completed by the doctor and signed by the parent.
If you have any questions, please call 725-8912.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
