Troy 30-C Special Education Department
-
The Special Education Department at Troy CCSD 30-C exists to support students to reach their academic, functional, and social emotional potential by implementing research-based best practices and strategies in order to promote independence and self-advocacy, in collaboration with families and their communities, to ensure student growth.
The Troy Special Education Department, in partnership with the Southern Will County Special Education Cooperative (SOWIC), provides a full continuum of services and placement options to meet the needs of children between the ages of 3 and 8th grade who are determined to meet the criteria for federal and state special education eligibility due to a disability that adversely impacts their educational functioning. Once it is determined that a student meets the criteria to receive special education, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed. An IEP is a written statement of the educational program designed to meet the students needs. This plan may include related services, which support students in benefitting from special education and may include, but are not limited to, social work, speech/language therapy, transportation, assistive technology, occupational and physical therapy, and adaptive physical education. It is important to note that related services are determined based on educational needs and differ in eligibility and services provided within a medical model. More information about special education and related services can be found on the Illinois State Board of Education’s website.
Related Service Logs
-
The District maintains related service logs that document the type of related services administered under a student’s IEP. Related service logs also include the minutes of related services that have been administered. This notice is to inform parents and guardians of their ability to request copies of any IEP-related service records for their child. Please direct any requests for a copy of IEP-related service records to your child’s IEP case manager.
Section 504 Plans
-
Students with disabilities who do not qualify for an IEP may qualify for services under Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, if the student: (1) has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, (2) has a record of a physical or mental impairment, or (3) is regarded as having a physical or mental impairment.
Interpretation Services
-
Interpretation services are available at IEP team meetings for parents/guardians whose native language is not English or for parents/guardians who are deaf. If a qualified interpreter is not available, the school may use contracted vendors including telephonic interpreters. Please notify your child’s IEP case manager about interpreter needs.
