Book Selection Criteria
When selecting materials for the library, the LRC associates and Facilitator ask the following questions to determine the validity of the resource:
- Does the resource align with the instructional and/or curricular goals of the school?
- Is the resource appropriate for the reading levels, abilities, and ages of the students?
- Does the resource support the creative interests of the students?
- Does the resource contain literary, historical, and/or artistic value?
- Does the resource contain information that is current, accurate, and relevant?
- Does the resource have an unbiased and fair understanding of information presented, while also representing various perspectives and viewpoints?
- Does the resource reflect the reader’s point of view, provide an insight into another perspective, or allow the reader to walk through an imagination to become part of the world that has been created by the author?
