The purpose of this document is to provide our families with a quick guide to the protocols of eLearning.
Legal Authority
- According to Section 10‐20.56 of the Illinois School Code [105 ILCS 5/10‐20.56], school districts may, by a Board of Education adopted resolution, utilize “e‐learning days” in lieu of emergency days for events such as snowstorms, cold weather, or other short term emergencies. The number of e‐learning days may not exceed the number of emergency days in the approved school calendar. If an eLearning day is utilized, the day will not need to be made up at the end of the school year.
School Day
- Teachers will communicate the day’s virtual instruction and assignments for the day by 9:15 AM for students in grades PK-4 and 8:30 AM for students in grades 5-8. These will be posted in the teacher’s individual Google Classrooms.
Attendance
- Student attendance will be determined by student completion of activities and assignments.
- Teachers will have two additional school days to review student work and complete attendance within Skyward for the eLearning Day.
- Incomplete and missing work will result in an unexcused absence.
- If a student is sick or unable to attend class, parents are to contact the main office attendance number and attendance will be properly recorded.
- Attendance within Google Classroom is not required on a day a student has a verified and excused absence.
Activities and Assignments
- All of the day’s activities and assignments will be posted in Google Classroom by 9:15 AM for students in grades PK-4 and 8:30 AM for students in grades 5-8.
- Activities and assignments will be asynchronous (self-paced); however, teachers will be available throughout the day during their “office hours” to meet with students via Google Meets, but live attendance by students is not required in these meetings.
Virtual Office Hours
- Virtual Office hours for teachers and administrators will be held from 9:15 AM-2:15 PM for students in grades PK-4 and 8:30 AM-1:30 PM for students in grades 5-8 on eLearning days.
- Teachers and administrators can be contacted during virtual office hours during the eLearning Day via their email address and/or other regularly established communication set forth by the classroom teacher and the administrator.
- Teachers are responsible for communicating contact information within Google Classroom along with assignments.
- Teachers and administrators will be working online at this time and will be responsible for answering questions as quickly as possible. Students and/or parents can expect to receive a response within approximately 30-40 minutes and/or sooner.
- In the event that you do not receive a timely response, please email the building principal for additional information.
Preschool
- Preschool is included in the elearning plan as a continuation of learning. However, attendance and completion of assignments will not be required per guidelines from the state of Illinois.
- Our preschool team will make available age appropriate activities for families to engage their students in learning throughout the day.
Technology
- At the start of each school year, families will be emailed student login information to Google Classroom in preparation for an eLearning Day. This information will also include how to find and log into Google Classroom.
- Elementary Information
- Students will utilize their district assigned device that is brought home each night to participate in the eLearning Day.
- Campus Information
- Students will utilize their district assigned device that is brought home each night to participate in the eLearning Day.
- If a student does not have access to a device or internet, the family can request paper-based materials through communication with the teacher. These will be given to the student upon return to school.
Tech Help Desk
- A district run Tech Help Desk will be available to our teachers, students and parents during the eLearning hours.
